21 miles in a different setting.

21 miles was ran today at the Wooster Indoor Track. That's 146 lap on the outside lane of a 200 meter track. I thought that with being a little on the weak side after my being sick, it would be best to do this in a more controlled enviroment. A treadmill at home would have been more controlled, but I would have ended up with Brittany Spears doing that. I was pleased to do the run fairly well and feel confident that I will be able to survive 31 miles next week at Psycho Wyco 50 km in Kansas.

Getting back to normal.

What ever normal is for me. Ran 5 miles in the Mohican Class A campground area and even through in a couple of miles of muddy trail. Felt great. Was able to breath without the burning lungs. My vim and vigor was a little lacking as a ask my legs to move at 7 minute mile pace and they responded with a firm 10 minute pace. You take what the body allows. For now I am in a better frame of mind.

Lungs on fire!

I woke up today and felt great. So I was determined to go out and do a test run. Beautiful day with the sun shining and a slight breeze. The run was to be a 3 mile hilly run to the lodge road and back.
My legs were a little tried from not running for four days, however my lungs were on fire and not from an all out race effort. They burned from the minimal use of a slow run. I guess they were rebelling from being hit with the infection and not wanting to be put to the test so soon. I survived and will go out tomorrow and run 5 miles.

Still fighting the crud!

This makes day 4 and still fighting the upper respiratory infection.
I do feel better and hopefully on the up hill swing. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to do a run.
Today was to be 24 miles. I would be glad to run 2.4 miles.
I have been doing the vitamins, eating healthy, and resting. Now let the magic begin.

Life Just Stinks!

Wednesday when I got up to do my 10 miler, I had a sore chest, cough, head congestion, and it went down hill from there. Over Christmas I was unfortunate to obtain a stomach virus that took a week and a half to over come. Now I get an upper respiratory infection. Isn't life grand.
I'm supposed to do a 24 miler this weekend, I just hope I have enough energy to do it..sick or not.
So today I will take off, also. I guess my goal for Psycho Wyco 50 KM in Kansas will be to finish and no grand goals for place. I hope everyone else is doing well, especially you RR 100 runners.

3 miles after 2 days off.....

I ran 3 miles today after taking 2 days off. Not intentional, one day I coached my athletes at the Oberlin College High School track meet and Sunday I was a bad boy. Or was it to cold.
The three miles was in Mohican Forest, north end all road.

The kids did exceptionally good on Sat. as we won the 800 run and the 3200 relay (4X800).
There were many be D-I and D-II schools at the meet.

Bright Blue Skies

8 miles....Mohican Class A check in to the covered bridge and back. Blue skies and sunshine make a run have a whole new perspective. Even when it's cold (25), it is a joy to run.

5 Miles in Mohican

Today I ran 5 miles pretty much on road in the Class A area of Mohican. Nothing special happened or was seen. Of course Mohican is always a nice place to run for scenery, even on a gloomy day.
Now Sunday will be a true test of ones metal with the high going to be 12. BRRRRRRRRRR!

Kahtoola

Today I ran 5 miles on snow and ice covered trails in Mohican. More important I tried my new kahtoola micro spikes. They are designed to fit over my running shoe and have some 3/4 inch spikes that give plenty of traction in snow. The only problem I noticed today was mud and leaves would clog in the spikes. This was probably due to only 1-1 1/2 inch of snow on the ground, allowing the dead leaves on the ground to get caught in the spikes. No problem, just scuff the spike on the ground while you run and the clogs fall off.

My Unmotivated Run

The snow was falling, the ground and trails had a nice blanket of white, and the temperature was winter like. I don't like to be negative more than 50% of the time, so the plus for my adventure was it was on trail, it was beautiful out side, and I ran some of the nicest spots in Mohican.
I ran the Mohican 100 orange loop minus the grist mill(15.5 mi.). Saw three deer. The rest was me and nature.
I must say, that warmer climates for winter might be a plus. Hawaii was nice with minimal swings in temperatures. I think I could handle 60-70's in the winter and 70-80's in the summer. Or I could become a snow bird and live in Florida in the winter. Oh well, things will be better tomorrow.
I did notice one thing that concerned me on the run. Between mile 4 to mile 1 on the bike trail, the forest has marked new boundaries. Those are the yellow paint blazes on the trees, denoting state forest and private property boundaries. The concern is the bike trail travels through those lines.
So does that mean bike trail is actually on private property? Will that mean the bike trail will be rerouted, surely reducing the distance? Let's hope not till after the Mohican Trail 100.

Mohican Forest Memory

Today I ran a run from the Forest Headquarters, where I lived at one time. The run was 5 miles, but I had logged many of miles of this run when I was a true road runner. It is all on asphalt, but in a serene setting.
I ran this run with many of high schoolers who at the time went to Clearfork High School. Anyone recognize the lead dog (or colt)? He has been mentioned in this blog before and even has had a photo in here. Kinda of ranger like/real or imagined.
Today I entered the Psycho Wyco 50 KM Trail Race in Kansas. Hope to get my butt in shape by then. I am a little out of shape and slightly unmotivated. It must be the time of the year.

10 mile run on a beautiful day!

Went out into the woods of Mohican to run 10 miles. What a beautiful day. Blues skies and a slight breeze made it feel much warmer than the 39 degrees it actually was. Unlike Thursday, there were lots of hikers out with their dogs and believe it or not the three dogs I saw today were golden retrievers. All three old, unlike their owners who were young. Oh well, just an observation. Saw no other runners.
Plan to run 15 miles on Sunday. Will start at the covered bridge and run the orange loop minus the grist mill.

A Run Along the River

Today was a magical day when I ran 5 miles along the trails next to the Mohican River.
One thing for sure is the lack of tourist out and about. The trails were all to myself.

I would like to thank everyone who made nice comments about my becoming a blogger.
I was surprised no one commented on the neat picture of Ranger Rob 'Buckeye' Powell when he was just a lad of
17. That even takes him back a few years.

Mohican Trail Run

Ran the trails from the Mohican Class A check-in to the Covered Bridge and back. This has been my longest run of the year (8 miles) after battling flu during Christmas through New Years. You certainly can not feel bad running in shorts, short sleeve shirt with temperatures in the 60's. It was so pleasant frolicking in the woods. I actually ran across the wooden bridge by the Class B campground, twice. The bridge was dry!!!!! Now I can get back to training. Hope to run 15 miles either on Saturday or Sunday at Mohican. Is anyone game?

I'm Here!

Finally, after much prodding by Rob
I am now posting my very first ever Blog. Whoopee!!!!!
Like I have all the time in the world to sit at a computer and post boring facts about my runs.
And like anyone really wants to read about my adventures. However, I spent over two hours on this so we will continue and hopefully some person will read this.

Actually, Rob was insistent on me doing a blog since most people think he is out in the woods
running with an imaginary friend. Well actually, this is Rob's third blog. So he does run and talk to imaginary friends.
Now I am heading out to do a run, so I have something to tell everyone.
